River Club in Betanzos

 

The project of a river club in Betanzos is based on 3 main concepts, influenced by its location (the river, topography ...), the importance of the use (directly related to sports activities on the river) and the willingness of including the surrounding nature in the building.

1. Linear Project:

Keeping the existing bike path and respecting the river course have configured a linear project, in which many points can enjoy a relationship (direct or visual) with the river. While others, taking advantage of the slope, would be more linked to the urban part.

 

2. Air:

One of the main needs is the volume of air, as well as ventilation or even the darkness at some point.

 

3. Forest:

Looking in the surrounding nature, in the wooded area located on the southwest part of the plot my willing was to continue it, not only on the public space but also into the building through the introduction of courtyards and creating a structural grid of wooden pillars every 5 meters, somehow remembering a forest of wooden pillars, with simplicity and structural clarity.
